Electrica Test - -

Had a problem with my '89 Surburban and fixed it, today. It was unexpected, let's see who can come up with the correct repair!!

My 20 yr. old son, jumped one of his buddy's Exploders with my 'Burban.
Not trusting their knowledge on hooking it up, [especially to a Ford] I went out to find MY battery hooked up wrong, cables smoking, and it killed my engine!!
Connected correcty, it still started the Ford, but woudn't start - crank real good, but not fire!
That was about 6 weeks ago, and I rarely use it, but since the weather's supposed to go to 0 next week, I deceided to look at it today.
Checked all the fuses - good.
Checked spark - weak, but there.
Primed with gas - started, but died - no fuel pressure - guage pegged way past full!
No headlights, flashers, interior lights, or radio, but starter cranks like new!!

[excuse the missing "L" in the heading - only letter on keypad you have to hammer!!]

Let's see who has good diagnostics - I've the answer, and it was a minute fix, once found1!

Not really up on the newer stuff. Did GM have OBDI then? Was it on the Suburban?

Is this the same know-it-all kid you wanted to trade somebody for a car a while back? I can see why....

I'm guessing it had something to do with the fuel pump relay. That, or I think those things had a big master fuse link under the hood.

One of the kids at work needed to jump start his 95 Ranger Wednesday- cold weather finally got the battery. He got one of the other young bucks out there to jump him, and sure enough, they were getting ready to put the cables on backwards when I got out there.

These boys can fix a powerplant, but they self-admittedly don't know jack about cars other than drive them. Since the one needing the jump was parked right next to me, I kinda had a vested interest in making sure they didn't blow up a battery.

OK- dont hold us in suspense? Which relay was it? or was the fix to disconnedt the battery and then re-connect to "refresh" computer?

Yellowstatue was the closest - the thin negative cable from the battery burned through - goes to the core support!
Cut it clean, and mounted it behind the cable to the battery.
Should've started with the 'smoking gun', and saved about 1/2 hr!!

I'll have a cheeze burger (no ketchup, relish or mushrooms), fries and a vanilla shake (two straws), please...
