Electric windows kickin my butt

Dad always told me never mix electricity and water, as a result, I have steered clear of plumbing and electrical work. Here's my problem, my front windows on my 69 Cutlass ain't workin. The passenger window does occationally when your just running down the road. Driver did until I got it back from the upholstery shop. The driver switch runs the rear quarter windows fine. The passenger window works off the driver and passenger door switches when it works...... Sounds like a short but I'm at a loss, could it be the driver switch puckin? Wire issue? Thoughts on how to diognostically check it?

It will be hard to explain diagnostic if you have no electrical experience. Can you use a test light? If you "fiddle" with the switch when trying it will it start to work? A common problem is worn/dirty contacts in the switch or the plug at the switch.

Rob did a nice writeup on restoring a set of switches. Here's the link:

I'm not very good with electrical stuff, but from what you described as some working and others not I'd try cleaning up the switches first, and see if that fixes it.

Pat, I have no test light, ohm meter or any such critter. Pretty good at rebuilding mechanical stuff but wires just freak me out
