Distributor power source

The PO has run power from the fuse box directly to the distributor. No question this didn't come from the factor this way. The wiring diagram looks to me like it comes off the starter? I do have a pair unused green/yellow hanging near the wiper motor, could have been their intention? The wire run is fairly heavy, could the replacement distributor needed a higher amp run?

I'm assuming an HEI is installed in your car which is why the power comes from the fuse box IGN terminal. The wire from the starter is the resistance wire bypass to provide full battery voltage to the coil+ terminal when the starter is turning. You may not need it if there is voltage to the Coil+ terminal when the engine is cranking and that wire is disconnected.

Yes it is HEI, so I guess it's how it should be. I'll just take the excess wire off and make it look like it is suppose to.
thanks,
Steve
