Console shifter/engine start

Hopefully someone can provide some guidance. My 72 Cutlass frequently will not turnover unless I jiggle the console shifter. Idiot lights come on, everything else is normal - just dead silence on the engine. A quick side-to-side or front/back jiggle usually does the trick and she starts right up.

It's not a huge hassle, plus nobody can steal her! But I am concerned that one day just a jiggle will not do the trick. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You can adjust the neutral safety switch on the bottom of the steering column so that it aligns properly with the "park" position. Although, if you like the theft deterrent quality of it then you can always put it in "neutral" to accomplish the same thing.

The problem is that if it's too far out of adjustment you might be able to start the car in "reverse" or "drive", in which case the car will move when you crank it and will surprise you no doubt. Your call
