I am in the process of installing an electric choke (purchased from carbjunkys.com, Atlanta, GA) on my 1976 Cutlass Salon and I need advice as to which circuit I should splice its power wire into. I have decided to go this route because every component in the manifold heat stove system would have to be replaced for the hot air choke to function correctly.

Suggestions?

The safest way is run a 12 gauge wire with an inline fuse from the IGN spade on the fuse box to the choke.

It is a key operated 12 volt source, and the fuse protects you from a electrical surge.

 

This is what I did and it works well.

 

If your going that route, the IGN terminal is already fused through the taillights 20A. So an additional one is sort of redundant. I use the IGN terminal for this and HEI power with no issues. I like Joes way also, its just a more complicated approach as here in Texas a choke is not much of an issue.

 

Not elegant, but you can tap the wiper power too.
