my car blows warm / hot air from the floor even when the a/c off plus when I turn the a/c on the blower motor does not respond but when I switch the a/c switch back to off the blower starts blowing that warm air from the floor again. I bought a new resistor and installed but still the same thing. can someone please tell me whats going on ?

There is a vacuum reservoir on the engine side of the firewall that supplies vacuum to the blend door. If the vacuum hose is disconnected, the air blows out the floor vent only. It is very common for the vacuum hose to get disconnected - I've done it several times over the years.

That may explain the air blowing out the floor vent only, but I have no idea about the other stuff.

 

I will check this a.s.a.p. because it's already hot down here in Louisiana but I will let you know what I find

I checked all hoses under the hood and on the firewall but nothing was disconnected or leaking so the problem may be under the dash I'm thinking??

 

Where in Louisiana are you? I grew up in the southwest corner of the state. From what I heard this morning, you need a boat more than you need AC right now!

Ok, so the blower motor switch should be independent of the mode control, by which I mean the fan should keep going. Chances are, you have messed up vacuum routing in your controls. Also, start the car, hood up, look at AC compressor, clutch should not be turning, turn on AC, clutch should engage and spin on the front of the compressor.


There's only 4 things going on in a car AC system. The AC compressor is either circulating or it's not (controlled by that clutch), the blend door is either hot or cold or somewhere in between (controlled by cable drive on that hot/cold blend lever, also, there is a valve to shut off the heater core on max cold, hence the pop it does into max cold), then there is the blower speed, controlled by its switch, and then there is the mode control, which operates vacuum doors to route the air, and turns on the compressor clutch in max, norm, and bi level.


I think your blower is still going in AC mode, just maybe not sending it anywhere. You may have some stuck vacuum doors and a stuck blend door.

 

Ok Koda, I'll start checking under the dash and checking all vacuum lines and blend door today and get back to you. Is the blower motor under the dash or it's in that a/c box under the hood?
