Alternator choice

I'm at the point of purchasing a new alternator for my 68 442. Wiring has already been converted (read "hacked") for a 12SI, but I have no idea what the output was of the alternator that was on the car. The car is now equipped with an aftermarket radio and Vintage Air but nothing else fancy.

I can go with either an SI or CS alternator. Recommendations on which to choose and what amperage to consider?

Thanx for your input.

Well, DON'T get a "one wire" alternator. The choice between SI and CS is up to you. There's a 94A 12SI used on the 86 Caddy Fleetwood that bolts in and looks like an original alternator. There's a 105A CS130 used on the 89-90 Custom Cruiser that also bolts in. Both are readily available from RockAuto. Either is fine.

No one wire alternators for me...

Probably go with the 12SI just for aesthetics. Thanks for the reply.

My 71 CS uses a 10DN external Regulator at 63 amps.
I updated it to a 10DN clone that's rated for 100 amps.

I still have the look and functions of an external regulator system, with 60 Amps at 750 crank RPM.
And 100 amps at 1,500 crank RPM.
Just make sure your Alternator power wire is 8 gauge or better.

PS, 100 Amps is the limit for a Single V-Belt.
