I was looking at a post internal/external etc. so I decided to check mine out.
Mine is an internal correct for 69 442's ( I think) It doesn't quite look
"open faced" it has Delco-Remy on the back and the following numbers:


1103076 63
8M6 12v

Ok so part number amps
Date code? 12v

I don't think this one could be an original after all these years.

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss it as original. I'm in the process of dismantling a 1966 Cutlass and the alternator on it had the correct numbers for factory. You might have to do some google searches to find out if this could be correct for your car. John

 

Looks like the date code could be Dec 6, 1968

WAY BACK THEN...it wasn't uncommon to take a bad alternator and have it rebuilt locally (there weren't auto parts stores on every corner). So maybe that's what happened with yours if it was ever rebuilt.

From what I read in 1969 only vettes used openface internal regulated alternators. In 70 vettes and 442its s

I know, in the 80's with my first 69 I just returned the bad one as a core...and ripped the original radio out, put speakers in the front door panel all those horrible things I wouldn't dream of doing now.

 

The date code suggests more than likely it was cast on Dec 8, 1976 . The number 8 represents the day of the production month. The letter M represents Dec (GM didn't use the letter I on their calendar models for numbering these, so the letter m represents the 12th month) The number 6 represents the production year. Going back to my GM parts manual, that number sequence would logically have to be from 1976.

All the alternators I can find listed for the 63-70 are either 37 42 or 55 amp. For you to have a 63 amp in your car suggests it was replaced with one having a higher amp rating. Does your car have a lot of power options, or were some added? Having a higher amp rating than you need won't hurt your car.

 

Now power stuff, it is an A/C car.

 

First of all, the correct alternators for a '69 4-4-2 are 1100853 (42 or 37 amp, I don't recall which it is) for cars without A/C or heavy duty cooling, or 1100852 (61 amp or 55 amp, again I don't recall which it is) for cars with A/C or heavy duty cooling. Both were internal voltage regulator alternators and they applied on A bodies only to the 4-4-2. The Cutlass and F-85 models got the external voltage regulator alternators (1100767 (37 amp) for cars without A/C or heavy duty cooling, or 1100777 (55 amp) for cars with A/C or heavy duty cooling).

If your 1103076 alternator has an internal voltage regulator, it should work on your '69 4-4-2 although it is not original to the car. The alternators I have seen from the late 60s usually start with 1100XXX. I suspect the 1103076 alternator you have is from the 70s. For the date code, the first number is the year, the letter is the month ("I" is skipped because it looks too much like a "1"), and the last number (or numbers) represent the day of the month. By my calculation, the 1103076 alternator you have is dated December 6, 1978. It would have come off a 1979 model year car.
