8 Track Information
Hi I have never been on this forum before but I'm hoping someone here can help. I found this 8 track player while cleaning out my grandparents attic. I have been unable to find any info on it at all, making me think it may be something rare. If anyone has any knowledge about it I would greatly appreciate it.

I also would like to hook it up and see if it works. Any one know how I would go about it? If it has to be played through a radio or could just its self be hooked up to a speaker? There was an AM radio with it but it doesn't look like they go together.

Hi,
from the pictures it looks like it has a power amp built in, so you would have to hook up the two speakers. Without looking in more detail it is hard to say how, but in gereral there will be left and right a pair each and +12V and gnd. gnd is connected to the chassis, the speaker may or may not have one line connected to the chassis.
Do you have tapes? You can still find them but have to be careful - the capstan roller may have deteriated, then I consider the tape junk, and the tape splice with the metal strip often comes off due to dried out adhesive.
Restoring the player is another issue all together - how does the head look? With deep grooves you'll have to consider replacing it, all your treble response will be gone - is the track change mechanism in ok shape, some early plastics used becomes briddle and things get tricky. Usually you also have to replace the belt, most can be found still.
Sometimes the output stage is blown due to shorts on the speaker wires.
I have refurbished many 8track players, between just a good cleaning and some tricky repairs - even one of the original Lear-Players.
