'76 Cutlass Supreme - A/C, Heater blower
Hi,
I have an issue with what I think is the blower motor for the A/C and heater and the switch for both. First, the lowest speed and the highest speed no longer work and I'm guessing that's a switch issue on the control panel. Correct? Also, when the blower is running on the other two speeds, it's making quite a bit of noise. Both a chirpping sound and it sorta sounds like a 'growl' for lack of a better term. Is this a blower motor issue only, or something more? If it's the motor, is it easily accessible?
Thank you.

Blower Motor Squeel, dead fan
I'm no expert, but I'd suggest replacing the blower motor, as it sounds like the bearings are shot. I didn't when mine was doing the same thing, and then it died altogether and seems to have taken something else with it. Now that I have replaced the blower motor I still get no response. It appears(!) to have melted the electrical connector to the relay (brown wire).
Again, I'm NOT a pro at this, and am only piecing my info together, so hopefully someone else can chime in on it.
Regarding the different speeds working, it could just be insulating grime on the contacts. I had the same symptoms on a Camry. I pulled out the fan-speed selector switch, cleaned the contacts, and it was good to go.
