68 Cutlass shifter swap wiring

I did "search" for info but am not quite clear....I am converting my 68 Column shifted car to a Hurst Quarter Stick. Can I just snip ( the purple ones I think) the 2 wires that go up into the column and rewire them to the safety switch on the new shifter? Can these wires be crossed and still work? any other tips or input is appreciated.

Yes, though your shifter should have both an NSS and backup light switch. Purple wires for the NSS, green for the backup lights. And yes, if you simply jumper across the two purple wires, the car will start in any gear. One word of caution. Most of the aftermarket NSS switches I've seen are microswitches that appear to have very limited current carrying capacity. If yours has one of these, I'd wire a relay to carry the starter circuit current.
