68 442 Turn signal switch replacement

I was able to remove the original turn signal switch on my 68 but can’t feed the new one down through the steering column. Any suggestions or help with how to do it would be appreciated. I was reading where if you twist the section where the switch is mounted it comes off but mine is not no matter what I do . Thanks for any helpful advice!

Try hooking a moderately stiff wire to it, then feed the wire down thru the column. It should pull the connector and wiring thru it.

Feed a stiff wire down the tube and tape the new switch harness to it without the connector. Then insert the pins into the connector using the old one as a guide.

It's a little late now but you're supposed to attach a pull wire to the old harness so you can pull the new one back through
