68 442 Dash Harness Compatibility
#3
I have seen other posts in this forum where they have tried useing parts of a 69 harness on a 68, or vice versa and ran into issues. I am not sure if it was the harness for the engine bay, body, or under dash. As I understand it will work, but will need to change a wire or two at the block to make it do so. Changes from year to year are common, but often subtle. Before you start, wait until someone who has actually delt with this sees this post and fill you in on the changes needed, it will probably save you a lot of time and some hair pulling as well

68 ignition switch is on the dash. 69 is on the steering column. Other than that they should be very similar.
Normally I'd recommend a harness from a parts car simply because everything is the same length, same wire colors, same plugs etc as original. But since a pristine used musclecar wiring harness is next to nonexistent, your best bet will probably be a repop wiring harness.

The steering column wiring (and thus the ignition switch wiring) are completely different from 68 to 69. You would need to cut and paste that part of the harness from one to the other. Also, while I haven't checked 68 to 69, I do know that the 69 and 70 harnesses have different pin assignments in the firewall connector. I used a 70 forward lamp harness on a 69 and the wire locations in the firewall connector are different. I had to remove and swap several wires.
