67 Cutlass fuel gauge inop
Fuel gauge not working. New sender, power to sender, good ground, power at dash upper left terminal, ground at right upper terminal and lower terminal with gauge out. With gauge installed, test light does not light at all. Manually move the needle, turn on ignition, and it moves back to empty. I know I have 8-10 gallons of fuel in tank. Whatcha think? Thanks

If you remove the sender wire with the key on, does it go to full? If you ground the wire does it go to empty? If yes to both, then your float is not adjusted correctly. The gauge does not move linear as the tank empties due to the dimensions of the tank. So 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full is not necessarily accurate.

You have to drop the tank and shape it like the old one. Fill the tank and see how far up the needle goes. On mine if I fill it to the neck and see fuel then the needle reads past full. If you want to change it you have to drop the tank and bend the arm. Using the old one as a guide helps a bit if it was somewhat accurate.

Precisely full is not absolutely necessary, reading over full at full is ok to a certain extent.
Empty, on the other hand, has an entirely other connotation. Cars seem to either have a little past empty, or empty means empty. I think these cars had full meaning full, and empty meant you were out.
