67 cut out

Hello all, I have a 1967 cut supreme with a 330. I’m in the process of replacing old fuses until I find the time to replace the whole fuse block for an aftermarket one. In the process today when activating the wipers – I got a nice shock through the steering wheel. Not surprise there – I imagine frayed wiring is to blame. The question I have is when I hit the brakes to check brake lights the car just shut off. No sputtering to indicate a stall, it was idling fine. Just shut off and now it appears I have no power to restart. Any ideas?

There is a fusible link in the red wire that runs from the horn relay power stud to the bulkhead connector. It's probably burned out, with that said you would need to also find the cause for it to burn out.

I don't know how you can get an electrical shock through a plastic steering wheel! Sounds like there is a wire as you say frayed or rubbed bare and contacting the metal of the body or chassis somewhere that became energized when you depressed the brake pedal causing a hard ground of the electrical system and possibly burning that fusible link as mentioned in a previous post. If you don't have the 1967 Chassis Service Manual, there is a "sticky" copy of the electrical diagram taken from that resource in the "Electrical" forum on this site. You may be able to enlarge it and use it to troubleshoot your problem. I would recommend you start a new thread in the "Electrical" forum for anything further.
