What is the condenser that plugs into the voltage regulator for? And Where can i buy a new one? Is this the same style used in the distributor?

It's a filter capacitor for your radio. They generally don't go bad, they should be available through your auto parts store.

 

In addition to what has been stated, it assists in suppressing the spark drawn when a points type voltage regulator opens the points under load. In engineering speak, it adds VARs (volt amps reactive) to the circuit. This improves the life of the contacts on the points.
