64-F-85 Pro-Touring electrical gremlins

Guys, I'm learning about patience one more time. I'm trying to sort out some electrical issues and this just started to happen yesterday. When the ignition key is in the off position the generator light comes on, start the engine it goes off. The alternator is a 90 amp Power Master and I also discovered that the alternator was warm without even running the engine. So I pulled the positive cable off for today. Prior to yesterday this issue did not exist. I'm beginning to believe the alternator could be failing. What I may do this week is put the old 64 alternator back on to see if the solves the gen light issue and that one does not warm, if so I will know the NEW alternator went South..Any other ideas?

Are they both external voltage regulator alternators?

Well Eric, I went back out to the shop this afternoon and discovered the answer to your question-thank you. I upgraded it all from M@H electric and the new harness connector will not connect to old alternator with the external voltage regulator. So, I think that one of the diodes in the NEW alternator is causing a short and killing the battery, AND it may just be causing some of the other problems I'm having.

That could be, you can probably take it to the auto parts store and get it checked out. Diodes are not hard to change.

Are you sure your new alternator is compatible with the M&H harness? I'm assuming by your post above that the new alternator is internally regulated.
