59 Olds generator cooking battery

Hi everyone,
I had to replace my battery today in my 59 Olds that's runs the 394ci motor.
Roadside assistance guy tested and load tested the new battery and said my generator was cooking my battery (Overcharging) I didn't know this could happen with a car that has a generator instead of an alternator.

Anyway, would I be looking at changing a regulator or something on this generator or is there something else I may need to be looking at?

Also I understand there is a standard and a heavy duty generator, how do I tell which one I have?

Assistance appreciated
Thanks
John

I would be looking at the regulator, its bolted where the power brakes should be on the driverside firewall.
My limited knowlege of these things suggests the gen charge rate is controlled by the regulator.
If your gen is model 1102092 that is a 35 amp and model no 1102093 is the 40 amp.
The regulator is also adjustable..

Yes, the voltage regulator controls how much juice gets fed back into the battery. While thiere is a way to adjust it, it is not very precise. You would be better off replacing it.

If you do, you may want to save the cover off yours to put on the new regulator, to mimic a NOS look?
