400 kickdown wiring
400 kickdown wiring
I am in the process of hooking up a B&M carb mounted kickdown switch on my turbo 400. However, my trans has 2 terminals. One horizontal and one verticle. I need to know which one I should hook the hot wire to. The other would be ground to the frame? Also, where is the best place to tie into 12v for the switch? I am already using the battery plug-in on the fuse box for my HEI and also tied into the wiper motor hot for my electric choke.
Thanks
Thanks
someone correct me if i am wrong, but i think that only one of the 2 terminals is for the kick down or "detent". the other terminal is for the TCS "transmission controlled spark" the ground is provided by the case of the transmission. i do not know which one is which. i may be way off here because it was in the early 90's when i rebuilt one. i don't think i helped you much but just trying.
If you momentarily put 12v onto that terminal with your ear very close to the tranny and the stereo turnned OFF you should be able to hear the solenoid click inside the tranny...
As usual, this site and all its members, offers a wealth of information! With the old trial and error method, this car would take me forever to put back together. Okay, on with stupid question #2 and 3. What does the TCS do and where is one of the best places to get a hot lead from. As I already posted, I am using the post on the fuse block for my HEI and already tied into the hot on the wiper motor for the electric choke.
Thanks again!
