I see nowhere for a front speaker on the dash, am I missing something, where does it go?

Should be in the center of the dash - a 4x10" grille.
Maybe post a picture of the top of your dash?

The car is in the shop, will see it Monday am and take a pic, there is no grill in the center of the dash, now I'm going to get under it to see if anything was ever there........I hope I don't have to remove my dash as Stavo did.

The 1964 dash is completely different from the 1970 that the O.P. is asking about and doesn't really apply to this discussion. The 1970 speaker is mounted to the underside of the metal part of the dash, directly under the windshield. If you look through the windshield from the outside, you'll see the holes for the speaker in right in the center of the metal part of the dash at the base of the windshield. The speaker is directly below this. If it's missing, a previous owner may have removed it when installing an aftermarket stereo.

Ok Joe, will look at that area.........when the windshield was out about a week ago we were commenting about no speaker grill, my friend is a mechanic doing the engine and tranny job for me, he was noticing the speaker missing, so I'm looking at kick panels and all, now I'll look way forward tomorrow am, thanks.

Looks like I sent the flag up a little early........we caught a glimpse of the speaker above the disconnected ducting.......ugh......so removal and reconnecting everything is next, thanks to all for the info.

Well, everything Rob and Joe said was helpful, I am new to working on Olds cars, trying to bring this Cutlass S to a 442 clone, as I was going to remove the bad speaker, I realized that the a/c and heat plenum for the vents was missing, so luckily I purchased one complete on ebay. I've decided not to reinstall a speaker in the same place, 2 sealed speakers under the dash will be in order.

This is long, but we found out the blower motor was squealing, and Rob's description of an easy removal of it was very helpful, especially with my friend car lift, about. an hour to complete.

Thanks all for the info.

Have you thought about a dual voice speaker? Fits in the stock location and gives you stereo sound.

Thanks for the info on that speaker, I haven't decided on whether to put one back in the same spot, tough to do on your back, or 2 sealed ones at easier to get at spots.

I have my 72 Cutlass convert in the stereo shop today. they are installing 2 - 4inch speakers in the original dash position and adding two speakers behind the back seat. leaving the dash original and putting the receiver/CD player in the glove box with a IR repeater so I can use a remote. Hope it turns out ok.

Yes 2 4" speakers was an option we talked about, 4 ohm speakers hooked in series.
Thanks.
