1970 AM Radio Antenna Connector

I'm installing my new trunk mounted stereo and bought a splitter for the antenna so I could feed the in-dash AM radio and the new unit. The male end of the splitter seems to be too fat for the existing AM unit. Anyone have any experience with this? It's possible that i just need to force it in there but wanted to check here first to see anyone else has any info. Crutchfield tech support said it should be the same size as any Motorola jack.

It should be the same size, just push it in.

It's designed to fit in the same size hole anyway. Those Metra pieces are not exactly precision so they sometimes need a little extra motivation to fit. Try twisting while pushing so you don't damage anything with the blunt force trauma.

Well it turns out it was indeed the same size. The socket on the radio was slightly angled and I was trying to stab the antenna lead straight in. Once I really got up under the dash and looked I could see the problem.
