1969 442 automatic console courtesy lights

The lighting in my console for the gear selector works fine. No such luck on the front and back courtesy lights on the console though. I found the orange wire for the front and back lights cut just behind the steering wheel. I wasnt able to find anything in my manual to figure out where this wire is supposed to connect to or how it is getting power. I am assuming this should have been the hot wire and the front and back console lights are supposed to be connected to work in conjunction with the opening and closing of the doors?

My car has the orange wire connected to a blank battery terminal on the fuse box.
