1964 Oldsmobile 98 question

So I’m working on replacing all the bulbs in my car, and I saw this on the manual. What is the H.T indicator lamp? I looked on the front of the dash and in the housing and it doesn’t look like it goes to anything, sorry if this is a dumb question

thank you!

It's the lamp for the Hydramatic Transmission shift indicator. A Ninety Eight will have it unless it's a floorshift car.

It’s a generation older than my ‘66’s, but Olds backlighted most of the control gauges & lenses so you could see them easily when driving at night.

If you get wild hair, look up the stock bulb numbers & wattages for your car. Then consider playing around with brighter & dimmer bulbs with the same bulb-bases as suits your liking. I like the gauge backlights a little dimmer than the idiot (aka warning) lights.

Or just leave it stock. Olds didn’t get lighting wrong in those days.

I’d avoid LED’s in these cars though. I find them too hot white to look right. Plus they didn’t exist when Olds designed the harness in, what 1962 or so? I gather this can lead to malfunctioning turn signal clickers and other complications.

Cheers
Chris
