Wanted: 1968 Hub Dust Caps
Wanted: 1968 Hub Dust Caps
I would like to buy a new one of these. Has anyone seen one online? This is the cap to go on the hub assembly. Would like a new ones (2), not used. So far cannot locate online.
wheel bearing dust cap
you will have trouble finding these, i don't believe they are reproduced unless another vehicle's part fits, keep in mind the driver's side(left) cap drives the speedometer cable and these are very hard to find and different from the right.
Thanks JC - I was thinking it was just a $5 simply dust cap/cover.
Did not realize it has significant functionality.
By the way is it worth buying the old stock asbestos pads (disc brakes) or are the new ones just as good? Heard that the asbestos one, if you can get a hold of, don't wear down the rotor as much.

dust caps
i had not considered that you had disc brakes, not sure if disc and drum caps are the same but i'm pretty sure the speedo ran off the left hub up thru 1970. never heard about the different pads wearing the rotors.btw ,did you find a window regulator? there was someone on here parting out a 68 delmont 2 dr
Thanks JC. No worries. I know the discs were rather rare then.
Unfortunately no I did not. I was not surfing until recently and I think everything is all gone now. Not sure if the had power windows, even if still available?
Thank you for reminding me about that.

I am looking for a power window regulator (drivers side). My dad said he rigged it around 8 years ago with hand-made pins or something to keep it on, but it can fall apart any moment and the window at any moment can come crashing down. Something like that.
Circled are the areas that are rigged. Not sure if I can just buy those linkages and replace that piece (as the power window works) or if I need to buy the whole power window regulator?
Has anyone installed a new regulator roller for a 1968? Looks like I need to drill out the old one (white roller with rivet) and the press in a new one?
I have heard this is better than installing one that has screw threads/bolts as it can come loose.

go buy it right away if you want a new GM part.
per usual NOS pricing scheme, reasonalble price $5 x 10 = $50
this one is half price
you should buy it before it gets away
last time seen, never
Try calling a bunch of GM dealers to see what they have. Might get lucky. Id imagine Dorman or the company that makes the HELP line of parts you see in the auto stores would have them Try some of the better private parts houses too that have the old guys behind the counter. NAPA, Federated, United etc...Also Google NOS or Obsolete parts. You may need a good part number. Chassis manual may have said number.
