I know this isnt going to be for everyone, but if you're interested, try to keep an open mind and let me welcome you to my favorite era of automotive customizing: the mids 60's to late 70's

The car:
1967 Delmont 88.

One owner, St. Louis its whole life. 29k original miles. PS, PB, ac (blows ice cold), 425 super rocket, TH400. White, and I mean WHITE. Dark red interior. NO RUST. None. Anywhere. Car was garaged its whole life. The only issue with the car is the sun got the best of the leather in a few spots, other than that, its complete.

The plan:
1972-1977 simple.

14x7 rev supremes, hydraulics, accessories (show pipes, small wheel, tv, archers, etc)

Not sure if im going to do anything with paint. I want a clean street car im not afraid to drive.

The name:
"Boogie Chillen" my favorite song ever written by my favorite musician of all time. John Lee Hooker. The name fit because ive been trying to get back to a build that has inspired me, and I hadnt found it since the Edsel. My wife isnt a fan of this style, in all honesty, its some of the reason I had held off on a 70's style build. The songs lyrics "Let that boy boogie woogie, it's in him, and it got to come out" Thats how I feel about this build.

Over the weekend I gave her a it of stance, nothing crazy, as im waiting to get the wheels, tires, and juice mounted before I go TOO low. Pictures from yesterday afternoon:

Ordered a set of tires from Discount Tire Direct. They shipped fast and were priced great.

Next was wheels. I have Coys Wheels build a custom set of AWC Supreme wheels 14x7 with a reversed dish and 1 5/8" backspacing. On the way to the tire shop:

Next up was a temporary solution for the rear tray. The original coverage was destroyed from the sun. Decided to try some fur:

Im happy with it. I will not be permanent, but better than nothing.

 

That brings us to today. Next on the check list is recovering the seats. The seats are the only problem area on the entire car, and have been abused by the sun and heat over the years.

Anyone know of a good source for seat covers?

The upholstery for full sized Oldsmobiles isn't reproduced by anyone. You'll need to visit an upholstery shop and have them custom made. My upholstery guy claims he can sew them up cheaper than buying them pre-made, for what it's worth.

The rear package shelf is available from PUI. Just get one for a '67 Pontiac Bonneville 2dr hardtop. It's the exact same one, but few realize it. I bought mine from Ames Performance.

Nice car. I wish mine had come with a painted top instead of the vinyl. It really enhances the smooth roof/deck lines.

JMO, but 185/75R14 tires are inadequate for 2+ tons of American iron Could have ordered them in 205's. I do like the wheels though.

Thanks a ton guys! I was really having reservations about building this car in this fashion, but I wanted to do something different than every other impala out there thats used for this style of car. Im really happy I went this route with the Olds. Its a perfect blend of hot rod/lowrider/kustom and I think it lends itself great to the style.

What's also good about your approach, and I really do love the wheels and stance, is if you ever did get tired of it, you could very easily put it back!

We still need to see interior and under hood pics.....I don't care about the seams that are split! Also, if you do decide to do dual exhaust, classic exhaust makes a nice set-up!

 

I have been looking at Classic for the manifolds Erik. The dact these 425s came with a 2 bbl and single exhaust makes me cry, haha. Im sure it would be a huge benefit in breathing and I know it would sound awesome.

I have the car with me at work today, Ill grab some interior and underhood pictures on lunch.

 

Also, Erik, through classic exhaust, do they have the correct manifold I would need to swap to duals?

 

If I had to guess, I would say no....he does have a real nice set up though! On my delta, I have flowmasters and resonators! It's not obnoxious that way....the car had flo's on it when I got it, only from the muffs back was it in bad shape. Classic sent me the over axle, resonators and tailpipes....I will look to see where to find the S manifold you will need! Glenn(copper128), may know or Joe(oldsmaniac) , may know where to get a mani ! Here's what my pipes look like.....

My '67 Custom Holiday Coupe almost sits as low as your car. That's what 46 years of gravity will do.

 

the 67 Delta is one of the finest looking cars Olds produced. while some purists probably just threw up on their keyboards, I dig it.

I like it - -Yes dig the wheels, haven't seen that look much --still interested in duals? see Thorton Reproductions, if originals can't be sourced as they are very scarce ... headers do not fit our '67's

Yes i like the stance a lot. Yes Thorton has what you need for the dual exhuast. That's where i got mine and it sounds great. No resonators. What did you use to drop your vehicle?

I laughed at the purists throwing up comment, simply because the last car I built in this style was a 1958 Edsel Ranger, and that really ruffled some feathers. I like to go this
direction with cars that most people want to keep garaged their entire life. If it has wheels and a motor, im gonna drive the hell out of it!

To address questions about the lowering and ride quality. It rides GREAT The front was lowered using 67 Impala coils in a 2.5 ton variation. A lot of the lowrider guys that bounce their cars need heavy duty springs for all that abuse, hence the 2.5 ton rate. I cut 2 coils out of those heavy duty coils to achieve that ride height. I am running Monroe shocks front and rear. I called Monroe and gave them weight and shock length specs and there they are. For the rear, Im running 64 Impala coils. The rear rides beautiful, better than the front. No cutting of those coils, they just settled nicely.

I dont bottom out much, if at all. Ive been at that ride height for 2 weeks now, no issues yet. I have had a lot of vehicles at that height, so I know my local roads really well

Thanks again guys. No huge updates, just did some work on the fuel system, got my gas gauge working, and cleaned my bumpers up til I couldnt move my arms.

Hit a car show on Saturday with my step daughter. Good turn out, bunch of different stuff. I NEVER actually register, but she was begging me to so we could get a goody bag, so I did haha. I didnt know where to enter it, so the car show people said under construction. Did that, took first in my class, then for some unknown reason, took best of show:

Supposedly all the old guys were crowded around it after I walked away to go to a carnival with my daughter. I was humbled to say the least.

i wish my '66 delta88 looked so good when i picked it up a month ago..this wil be my rat rod,425-2 for now and auto.i also need a pass side ex.man but would like to dual exhaust with sidepipes...remember those?..preserve your ride..

 

I like that look. Dream about going that route with my 65 98 convert, but a long way off, and would have to have the ability to raise and lower due to the road conditions where I live. Air bags?

Currently fighting a bad fuel gauge and a generator light that I cant seem to get rid of.

 

Love it I grew up on lowriders and love that genre of the scene. I think some cragar 30 spokes would look nice too or some zeniths although they are harder to find.

That Delmont is beautiful! Those supremes are my all time favorite rim and something that's on the parts list for my car in the future.

 

Thanks Cman! I love supremes too, but was hesitant to get them since they've become so popular over that past few years. I'm really glad I pulled the trigger on them though, i think they suit the car perfectly!
