What is this in the blue circle?

I would assume that it is the combined window wiper/washer motor however my car also has a smaller pump (red circle) currently connected to the washer nozzles (which sprays a fairly weak stream mostly out passenger side).

The large pump is connected to the smaller one with wire but the larger one has a spade connector next to it and not connected.

Blue circle: factory washer pump.

Red circle: Cheap, cop-out replacement washer pump.

You can buy rebuild parts for the factory pumps, or new pumps, or just get good ones from nearly any GM car in the junkyard.

So any good reason you can figure why the 3-spade connector is left unattached?

I figure I will hook it up and see if it pumps out

Not sure about a three-terminal connector - the washer pump has a two-terminal connector, which would be disconnected because otherwise the unused pump would click on along with the replacement.

By the way, the operation of the factory pump is that you press the button, a solenoid pulls a finger down onto a drive sprocket, the drive sprocket engages for about four cycles of the wipers, causing the pump to pulse back and forth, then releases.
I would wager that the aftermarket pump just sprays a continuous stream while you hold it in.

Probably because there was a problem with the old pump. It's also likely that they spliced into those wires when they installed the new pump. Don't go plugging stuff back in until you trace the wires.

My bad, it is indeed a 2 spade and had been spliced off power/ground.

Took the cover off and the solenoid and drive sprocket seems to be engaging correctly so I am wondering if the rubber diafram (sp?) is torn.


I did also notice that there is a single spade black (assume ground) wire coming through the firewall with the main bundle. It is not attached to anything and don't see any obvious female ends for it to hook up to. Any ideas?

 

It's easy enough to disassemble it to see. Rebuild kits are cheap - you just put it back together with the new parts.

It's something someone added later. Follow the other end for clues.

This should be the feed for the optional underhood light. See if it has +12V on it when the lights are on.

 

Perhaps I misunderstood.

When you said "with the main bundle," I thought you meant "alongside" or "accompanying the main bundle."

It seems Joe thinks you meant "as part of the main bundle."

He may be right.

The black wire comes through the firewall plug next to the main bundle but through a distinct and separate hole in the plug.

It has a single hole mounting bracket as part of the plastic spade cover.

I can't seem to get any read off it with the lights on but my digital voltmeter is shot I think
