1973 paint name
I've got the 1973 paint color chart. That color looks very much like Paint Code 60, "Mayan Gold Poly." Right above the name of the color is the number 2538. I don't know what that number means. 60 is the paint code.
Can you post what it says on the body cowl tag? There should be a "60" on it somewhere.

" jaunty75", you're the man. Thanks for the quick response. The car isn't mine but it's for sale near DesMoines, IA at a eye-popping $13,988. Overpriced and certainly over my head but I liked it because it's a color you don't see often ( Mayan Gold sounds so exotic and beautiful). I'm holding out for a 73 in the light green paint of that year( see attached).....what's the correct name, Jaunty ?
That would be paint code 46 "Moss Green Poly." Not quite as exotic sounding as Mayan Gold, is it? In fact, it's kind of funny that Olds would use the word "moss," a term that most people would associate with slimy green gunk on fallen tree trunks, in the name of one of its colors.
In 72 Olds was starting to call their paints earth tone colors and I guess they took it to another earthy level in 73.

Colors
Pontiac's name for "Moss Green Metallic" is "Golden Olive": it is truly a stunning color. I had a Golden Olive '73 Bonneville Coupe with white top/interior & it was awesome...the paint looked like the metal flakes were gold... It's one of those colors that looks so good when it's not faded....
Buick called the color "Green Gold Metallic" I think (might be a Chevy name). I have a rough '73 Riviera in this shade -- the car originally had a black top...I would think black would not look good against this color.

My '73 Supreme was Mayan Gold w/white buckets and white vinyl top. I called it metallic orange at the time (1977-1979), later had it painted silver. My buddy had a '73 Supreme in the Moss Gold at the same time, also w/a white bucket seat/white vinyl top.
Hey guys I own the green 73 in front of the pink wall. Long story how I came to own it which I'll bore you with another time. It was photographed and posted to the wiki site just before I got it! Depending on the lighting and which part of the car you match the chart to ( I have a chart as well) it could be as Jaunty says the moss gold irradescent or possibly the Tiffany gold ( I dont have the chart in front of me for the exact names or #s). Someone before me tried to match the paint by eye to hit the lower panels on one side and missed a bit. The car is in Maryland so if you're close and want to take a look to match the color, let me know. I'm in the process of making it as presentable as possible on a budget. Mike
Absolutely! I'd love some input on just what I have. I l know it has the 455 which I believe is original and found what I believe is the "build sheet " under the carpet with a bunch of cdes as well. If I can figure out how to use my smarter that me phone, maybe I can post a couple of pics.
The VIN will tell us the original engine. You can just copy that down and post it without needing to take a photo.
Finding the build sheet is cool. Codes on that would tell you what options were installed. You can match the codes to a dealer album, for example, to determine which is which.

That's not the cowl tag, that's the VIN, which is on the lower edge of the dash on the driver's side and visible from outside the car, correct? It would likely match what's on a sticker on the driver's door edge.
The cowl tag is under the hood, usually on the driver's side firewall near the windshield wiper motor or on the passenger side just below the cowl near the passenger side wiper post. You have to open the hood to see it. It's about the size of a playing card.
The "T" in the VIN confirms that the original engine was a 455. The "M" means made at Lansing. Otherwise, it doesn't tell you anything you don't already know, that it's a '73 Delta 88 Royale convertible.

Some info
options:
1- A 65 - bench seat with center armrest
2-A31 - power windows
3-A39 - power top
4-A42 - 6-way power seat
5-C61 - Comfortron (auto A/C) -- you lucky dog!
7-C90 - Courtesy lites (door)
11-Y60 - Accessory pkg group (RH visor mirror, underhood/trunk/dash courtesy lights.
I don't think that broadcast card specifies all the options though...for example, your car may or may not have a clock...it was optional & not included in Y60. However, the radio option is usually listed which means your car was evidently ordered without a radio...not that uncommon.
Oh yeah, T in the VIN says 455-4 with single exhaust

Hey, HKR, I have admired your Olds for some time. I pulled it off the Wiki site and posted a ? about the color. It's so cool you found the build/broadcast sheet. I'd love the opportunity to see your car in person one day. Good luck with a great looking 88.
Thanks, i like it a lot, not too many around you know. If you evercome across a saddle interior for that year, I looking for front seats and Door panels. The ones I have are from a 72 Lesabre. The back seat and panel are in good shape. Maybe I can figure out how to post a couple of pics of the car in the next couple weeks. It's funny, I actually bought that car for a customer of mine in Washington DC who was trying to replace the one he had because it was trashed. So I got it for him and 4 years later he gave it to me as a Christmas present (very generous guy!) I bought it from a man named Harry Mills at the spring Carlisle show in '06 and he was from just North of Philly. Small world
