The unfortunate end of my delta 88 :(

Hey guys haven't been on in a while, I have a very sad update on the olds, She's totaled. I hit a tree at over 50 mph luckily i'm okay for the most part except some bruises pain in my back and a concussion.

I hadn't been getting much sleep lately cause of work and it finally caught up to me. I fell asleep for 2 seconds behind the wheel, the road curved and i kept going straight. I took out a tree and ripped its roots from the ground. Pics are below I'll miss my delta, it was my first car, my first project car and it was 65% complete i did everything to it.

On a side note the motor and trans are still good and so are the rims. I'm most likely going to sell those parts and scrap the rest.

If anyone would like to buy the motor, trans or rims PM me and make me an offer. The motor is a 1970 olds 350 with #6 heads 9.0-1 cr originally 2bbl now 4bbl. with a th-350 transmission both motor and trans had 94,000 miles when i bought it. I refreshed the engine and trans with fresh fluids new gaskets, installed a new oil pump, new timing chain, new fuel pump, rebuilt carb, HEI dist. i put 13,000 miles on it so the motor and trans mileage would be roughly 107,000 give or take. It passed state emissions, with only 22 HC PPM's. Transmission shifts nice and smooth through all 3 gears with no problems, downshifts like it should when stepped on.

The wheels are black 1977 olds cutlass rallye wheels 15 inch with 4 less then 1 year old tires goodyear integrity 215/70/15. Only 1 tire is a little bald. other 3 have nearly new tread.

Glad to hear you walked away with minor injuries. It's a good thing you were driving a big Olds if you were going to crash into a tree. Cars can be replaced and I hope you find another nice Olds.

Glad you're OK. That was a hard hit. Good thing it was a pine. An oak or maple wouldn't have moved out of the way for you

Thanks guys I got lucky and yes thank god for my big olds if i had been driving a hondo I'd be screwed lol. I want to get another olds but money just got really tight and all i had was liability insurance so i don't get squat except what i make off the motor, trans, wheels and scrap metal.

But on a side note my nephew is giving me his almost mint condition 1975 Chrysler Cordoba 360 2bbl with only 45k on it. It spent most its life stored away in a garage. I'm getting it within 1-3 months. 1 door closes another opens I guess.

Currently I'm driving my 92 Ford Ranger until I get my Cordoba. again with 335K on the clock running strong. And yes thank god it was a pine. It would of been a lot more serious if it had been an oak tree, o god, i shudder to think of how bad it would of been .

Glad to hear you're okay. Funny how those darn scrub pines just jump out in front of you sometimes.

On a more serious note, I'm glad to see you had your seatbelt on.

Also, this is a moment for all of us to stop and think about exactly how dangerous it is to not get enough sleep, whether from shiftwork, multiple jobs, or partying. It can be deadly, and sometimes it's just not worth it.
In my own case, there was a time when my job required long overnights, when I got into the habit of throwing it in Park whenever I stopped at a red light, because I was guaranteed to fall asleep, and then my foot would lighten up on the brake pedal - I awoke drifting through intersections twice and decided I'd rather wake up to the sound of a horn blowing behind me than to my side!

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your Olds, but glad you are okay. The car protected you the way it should have. I hope you are able to part off every last good piece before scrapping the rest.
Do a part-out thread here and lets all see what we need. Let your car save others and help fund the next car!

Sorry to hear, but at least you are OK.

I had similar damage to my other Delta after hitting the 2000 300M that cut me out then jammed on the brakes

An accident you walk away from is a good one, as far as accidents go anyway. No broken bones, no internals.
Will miss the car though.

Glad you're alive. I know the feeling since I had the same thing happen to me when I was 17. Now I don't let myself drive that tired anymore. I pull over somewhere safe and take a power nap.

A couple years ago I did a 26 hour drive in two consecutive 11 and 15 hour stretches and I got that feeling, pulled over in the shade and took a nap on the window sill. When I woke up I discovered that the shade was gone and I was getting a sunburn! Much better than an accident though.
