replacing the heater core...

when i got my 72 delta conv. the heater core had been isolated and the hoses routed into the engine bypassing the core altogether. assuming that the core had leaked and that being the reason for the bypass i purchased a new one(was only 30 bucks) but had noticed that the core cant be accessed from the engine compartment! any tips on exactly how much dissassembly will be needed to the dash to change it?
