it may sound stupid(im new to olds,im a buick guy)but what does j2 means on my 324 4v air cleaner?

It means you have a decal that someone put on your air cleaner. The J2 option (tri-power) was not available until 1957. It was also available in 1958. Then it was discontinued. I don't think the 324 shares the same architecture as the 371 so I don't believe the tripower could have been retro-fitted. If it has tri-power it would be an after market Intake with after market carbs

He said it was a 4V (which I assume means 4 bbl) air cleaner. Definitely NOT a J2.

J2 = The name Olds used to market its Three 2-Barrel carb option.

Tri-Power = The name Pontiac used to market its Three 2-Barrel option. It was never used by any other manufacturer.

Same engine, except for the increased bore and stroke, and the ¼" difference in deck height. The comparison is very similar to that of a 330 vs a 425.

Hard to "retrofit" a Pontiac manifold on an Olds engine.

J-2 manifold fits '57-'58 only, because of the differences in deck heights.
