wow, its kinda hard to remove an entire country from one's engine compartment!!! Try covering the distributor and carb with plastic bags and spray the engine down with gunk and the powerwashing it. Keep the pressure away from the plastic covered areas.....

 

now see, i was gonna say something about greece too, but i chose not too.power washing is good, steam cleaning is good to. other than that, the only real alternative is good old fashioned degreaser and a toothbrush. sometimes the hard way is the best way. it really depends on your goal. if its a daily driver, try using Gunk engine degreaser. it may give you what you want.

 

BTW, many of the de-greasers do not use solvent they use a negative PH to break up the grease. So instead of washing gallons of solvent down the drain you are washing water and maybe a pint or so worth of old grease and dirt that just LOOKS like gallons of solvent. I have heard of people using oven cleaner too. That stuff is really powerfull so be careful of skin burns if you use it and use the rinsing water on low pressure with a brush like rfaller mentioned.

 

be careful with oveb cleaner. it can eat your paint or the coating on alluminum.engine paint should hold up to it. just watch all your non engine painted surfaces.
