Hi all, from Atlanta....

Attempting to make my way out of the newbie forum....
I currently own 2 '58 olds EightyEights - one Hardtop {possibly a Super88?} and one sedan. The HArdtop has a 455rocket attached to a powerglide trans. the Sedan is original with the 371rocket.
Question: can the Fuel/vaccum pump on a '58 [371r] be rebuilt or is it just go find another one? trying to keep car as original as possible, with as many of the original parts as I can keep or not have to change.
Q; if I want to upgrade the front drum brakes [on hardtop with 455] for better stopping performance, is there a donor car I can use parts off? I looked at aftermarket brakes systems [like wildwood] but too expensive....
Q; if I want to swap out the powerglide trans on the 455r, what would be a good trans for both everyday driving and performance? { currently Hardtop gets maybe 9MPGs...with powerglide.. course I'm not expecting to get super great MPGs but if I could at least get up to or better than my truck does that be good}

any help is appreciated...

If you are planning as much work as you intend to do, why dont you know if the car is a Super 88 or not?? And since when does a Powerglide fit in back of a 455?

Welcome.

You're both half right.

I'm a Yankee and I even know "Y'all" is singular and "All y'all" is plural.

It should read "Hi from Atlanta all y'all"

With all due respect "Ya'll" is both singular and plural. As in, "I'm a fix'in to slap ya'll up side de head."

"God's voice sounds just like Herman Talmadge."-Lewis Gizzard

You must be thinking of "Use guys."

Howdy Ya'll!?

NO I'm not Transplant.Raised on Grits, and Sweet tea in my veins. Didn't realize I was actually suppose to be typing in redneck or with a "Southern drawl" - although I'm sure I occasionally do. .. And Yankees given me advice on speakin' southern... that's kinda funny.
To answer questions: -- I currently live in the 'West End' area Of Hotlanta, use to live in C-town [that's Cabbagetown to all you foreigners not familiar to the City Neighborhoods]. However grew up in small town outside Atlanta..
I'm not sure If it is a " SUPER 88' as I particularly don't know what makes the difference between an '88' and 'SUPER 88' [haven't bothered to look it up, but was expecting one of ya'll to tell me the difference]. It's a 'hardtop' model for sure. I was told when I picked it up was a "SUPER 88". BUT much didn't care, since it did not have original engine and trans, interior, and/or paint.... TO which: I'm not sure how they, whoever, got a powerglide to fit a 455 [.. am sure somebody manufactures adaptors for such, much as they do for chevy or ford engine/trans 'swaps']. ANYWAY, the combo is good for smoking tires, and passing cars/trucks on interstate or back roads.. but not for passing gas stations.. terrible MPG's, even as much fun as it is...
Even as big as the car actually is, the 455 takes up a lot of room.. so much the person(s) had to fabricate and finagal the Headers in around everything else [like power steering and Master cylinder etc]..... of course they just might not have known exactly what they were doing. Regardless they got it to work.
Now I can say this car was placed in car shows, hot rod shows etc... Don't know if it actually won any significant awards.. I do know it got a lot of attention from the 'hot rod' crowd.. obviously for having a BB and being an Oldsmobile versus the typical chevy or ford you always see.
My intent was and still is to fix up one or both cars and take them to shows - particularly to The 'Shades of the past', and the HotRod and Custom shows held in Pigeon Forge,TN each year - which I've attended for past 7-8yrs [ although its been simply to lust over all the cars and/or drive up in a '61 dodge, and dream of someday {soon} taking my own cars].
I noticed at a lot of shows there aren't too many Oldmobiles - so it oughta be fun showing up with something other than a chevy or ford. - I have taken the hardtop to one show - it was more of 'hillbilly' ratrod show though and people did appreciate the Olds, and it was way cool, even cooler than some of the 'Company backed' [heavy advertisement] shows I've been to.

And I didn't notice any answer to my questions.... I though you guys were supposed to know everything about Olds.

Howdy,

My step son is at GCSU. I'll tell him to be on the look out for a 66 dynamic 88. What color is it?

True story,

I met a guy from Ireland who was in the RAF during WWII, He flew a Hurricane during Operation Market Garden. He trained in Albany and married a gril from Camilla and live in Gawga ever since. How wierd is that? The RAF trtaining in Albany,Ga. I guess it was safer place to train than England in those days.

If you see a tall, darked haired, unshaven kid with a tall dirty blonde permently atttached to his side waving at ya with the ole "deer in the headlights look," That be he.

Don't stop, he's broke and hungry.
