Gots me some 20's, yo!!
Gots me some 20's, yo!!
I couldn't pass this up. Tirerack.com had them on clearance for $99 a wheel, yes that's right only $99 a wheel for 20x8.5 They only had 2, but Summit matched the price for the other 2, but I had to pay Tirerack's shipping, plus Summit's shipping. Oh well. after shipping, I have a set of 20's for less than $500, $472 to be exact. The weight? not an issue. These wheels weigh in at 29 lbs a piece, and the tires are 27 lbs a piece for a grand total of 56 lbs per wheel, the same weight as my current front wheels and 4 lbs lighter than my rear wheels
Not planing on doing tires yet, maybe next year when I'm hopefully out of my hoodlem infested apartment complex, but here's my question.
I have to run 255 35 20's on these rims to maintain stock size. That gives me a sidewall of 3.5 inhces. I'm worried about driving around on them on the crappy Philly streets. My shocks get a pretty good workout in just the 2.6 miles I drive to work. I cracked a stock Alero 16 inch wheel on a pothole in the city (50 sidewall) destoyed 2 of the old Kazara's on the highway, in the city with teh 45 sidewall (of course the car jumpped out of that pothole and dented the tranny pan and exhaust pipe) and split a sidewall on a Kazera because some body thought it was cool to remove a man hole cover at night.
Anyway, anybody running 35 or lower sidewall on a street driven car? any issues. It's the time I cracked the Stock Alero rim I'm thinking of. the other things were accidents and shouldn't have happened and probably would have damaged any wheel
Here's the wheel They are NOT chrome, eff that chrome, yo!

Yo!, Them are some dope dubs!!! And the price is off the chain G!!!!
If you really like them, you had better buy some spares considering your driving conditions and the current price per wheel. Once one is damaged you'll wish that you had..

I contacted American Racing and thesaid that I don't need to fill out any warranty paperwork, just keep my receipt and if anything happens to them they will repair it

The size tire I need is 255/35/20 but I might go with a 40 sidewall just to be safe. It will make the speedo off by 2.5% so when I'm going 60, the speedo will read 58.6

I'm not one for doing big wheels on a car, however
- I won't need a ladder to get in the car
- Oil changes still require the car to be lifted with ramps
- 20 isn't that big anymore
- the 20's with tire, will weigh 2 lbs each more in the front and 2 lbs less each in the rear
Personally I only like 20's on wagons, as in covered not vista, but I'm old old school and I can see my time frame is waining, so what ever floats your boat, have fun with rubber band tires.

Good luck with that. I only did 17/18's staggered.
This one below has 20's up front, and 22's in the rear. 20's will look fine,
but might not last long in your local streets if they're really that bad.
Classic suspensions are built to have some of the absorption in the sidewalls.
Taking a huge chunk of that away is going to cause more stress on everything.
