Frames

The 1965/1970 B body have limitations when it comes to handling and performance. (All this is just my own opinion) Exhaust is limited to the factory S drivers side exhaust manifold for duals. It's okay but nothing flows like tube headers. Stopping, good working drum brakes are okay but disc brakes are better and we all know the problems involved with finding correct new rotors/calibers and fabricating aftermarket disc. Rear gears selection is limited also. Now to get to my reason for the thread. I have a 1975 Royale convertible that I plan on scrapping. The boxed frame is good. The wheel base is only one inch difference in length between the Royale frame and a 65/70. The Royal has a corporate 10 bolt, gears are plentiful, factory disc brakes. A-body headers fit with minor modification, I had them on my 1971 Royale. I am thinking of keeping the rolling frame just in case I live long enough to finish my present projects. So my questions is what do the Guru's think about this frame swap?

I'm pretty sure that "corporate 10-bolt" is really a Pontiac 8.875" axle, not the 8.5" Chevy unit. Still easier to get parts for than the 9.3" Type O, of course.

I know this sounds like folklore. My 1971 Royale convertible was a factory 455 2-barrel car. It had the 10 bolt non posi rearend. I have a 1971 98 455 4-barrel it has the 12 bolt 9 3/8". So, from the 1971 Chassis Service Manual, 2-barrel non-posi has the 10 bolt 8.5 but all anti-slip and 4 barrel cars (+ HD brake) get the 12 bolt 9 3/8. I guess the 10 bolt couldn't the 4-barrels torque, ha ha.

Here are a coupe of frame charts I pirated off the net .
First is '65 Olds B-body .
Second is '71 Olds B-body . I couldn't find one for a '75 , but 71 thru '76 should be the same .

That might give you some insight as to how much hassle it would be to put a '65 body on a '75 frame .

I have a 1967 and 1971 Chassis Service Manuals. I probably wouldn't ever get around to doing it but I hate to scrap a nice 1975 convertible frame. I have all the main body bolts out, tub is just sitting on the frame just in case I keep the rolling frame.
