Engine size? confuzed!

Well out in the shop playing with the Olds, got to poking around here and saw in one of the referance sections that the 371 is gold like my engine, although I have seen no referance to anything but the 394. My air filter says ulta high compression Sky Rocket, premium fuel only. So what is it? 394 4bbl or 371 4bbl? The car is a '62 Super 88.

Thanks as always,

Matt

Matt, if it is the original engine, it is a 394. 1960 was last year for the 371, and for 59-60 it was available only as a regular fuel 2-barrel and only in the Dynamic 88. They were green.

57-8 371 are gold and could be high-compression 4-barrel, but I expect someone got loose with a spray can on yours.

G305287 is the engine number. I don't know how to attach a picture, loooks like it has to be posted on the web and linked. Anyway it is gold with a gold air cleaner. The car has 41,000 original miles, parked since 1986. It had original tires, original belts & hoses etc... I bought it from the grandson of the woman who had it since new. I seriously doubt anyone had painted the motor, Grandma just didn't seem to be the motorhead type.

Thoughts?

Cheers! Matt
