65-70 Speedometer Cables, who needs one?

I've been talking with a member on this forum who needs a speedometer cable for his '66 88. I know I've seen others looking for these in the past without much success. This would be the long one-piece, LF wheel-driven cable for the 65-70 B and C-body cars without cruise control.

I happen to have a NOS GM cable which I've been saving for my cars. I'm going to be contacting a few custom cable manufacturers to see about getting copies made using my NOS piece as a pattern. I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who would be interested. They may be less expensive if I get several made at once. Let me know if you have an interest and I'll get to work on this.

I got only one serious reply from all the companies I contacted.
That manufacturer says he can make them for $75 plus shipping. Send me a PM if you want the contact info.

Speedometer cable

Does this speedometer cable go through the left front wheel? I don't need the cable for my 1966 Jetstar 88, but I do need the wheel hub that the cable attaches to.

The picture of that eBay cable is correct, as far as a 'through the hub' cable goes. The only issue I can think of might be length...

It is not my auction, but the seller of the previous Ebay piece is currently selling another (presumably he has a few):

Just wanted to mention...my last response to this thread followed my getting an auto-reply that others had recently responded. After the latest such auto-reply, I actually read back to the first post in the thread...I have linked to that Ebay auction (again, not mine) to help those in immediate need for a cable, but it was never my intention to step on Glenn's efforts to have the cables reproduced.

I know this is 10 years old , but does anyone still have a definitive replacement speedometer cable (no cruise) for a 1968 Delmont 88 Convertible (have 15" inch with disc brakes - not sure if that matters).

69-70 are different from 68-older. The 69-70 cables snap into the speedo head. The earlier ones use a threaded retainer.

Thank you Joe. Correct, my 68 is definitely a screw thread design. Finally snapped a couple of months ago.

The one that was sent to me does not have a threaded retainer to the speedometer. Looks like a snap on.

Just out of curiosity, not that I would do this, but could the cable come out of the snap-on casing and then be re-inserted into a screw-threaded casing? My speedometer casing looks fine - I would think I could just buy a generic cable and re-insert?

Yes, if all you need is the inner cable, a generic one works fine. It's the outer sheath that is impossible to get.
