64 jetstar 88

How do I know which rearend I have? Of course it's a 10 bolt. But what is the 8.2 or 8.5??
My goal is to order 3.73 gears but I need to what I have first.
Then where do you guys suggest I order from?
Thanks

If it s stock, which it should be, its an 8.2. The 8.5's didnt come out until 71 or 72.

Where can I find these gears?

I've seen some for a 8.2, BOP 1965-71. Would these even work?

Be aware that the '64 J88 is a weird animal with a LOT of one-year, one-model only parts. Rear axles for example. If I had to guess, I would say the differential is more like a Cutlass than a 98, as far as gear fitment.

Time to consult a final drive expert such as Mr. Trick or your local differential folks.

Chris is right. The whole assembly is a 1 year piece. But The brakes are Cutlass as is the internal differential parts and the cover. If you would ever choose to go rather high performance, an option is to use a factory 63/64 88/98 big rear. It all bolts up and has a 5x5 bolt pattern.

So any 63/64 out of any 88/98 would bolt right in?

Yes. The only things that you may have to do is swap the ujoint and wheels as they are 5x5 bolt pattern. I have one under my 64.

Thanks. Sounds a little easier than trying to find just gears. Now the search begins for a complete rear

If you are close to Austin, Tx I have a complete drum to drum rearend in a 64 Super 88 that I'd take 200.00 for. Local pick up only.

Henry

What do you think about the driveshaft length?

Do you know what gears they have?
