57 super88 tail light help.

Looking for info. I want to have my chrome t lamp bezel rechromed, but the lamp inner housing seems to be permanently attached to the chrome bezel. I m not sure the chromer will replate the bezel with the housing attached. Ant one run into this before, and if so what did you do? Thanks OLD 88.

Not this exact issue, but have you tried soaking the light and bezel in something like Enviro- Rust and get it to separate? May or may not work, maybe easier to find another light and bezel...Tedd

Here is a place that does tail lamp restoration and plating, www.4chrome.com , they might have suggestions on how to get that apart.

It's not permanently attached, being it's steel, and the housing is pot metal. Just rust and corrosion holding it together. They were crimped together at the factory. You can cut them off, and use a universal replacement bulb holder. I find it good to solder a pigtail on the bulb holder, and connect it to a good ground. I prefer the al metal ones, but in a pinch, you can make the plastic ones work (of course they have a separate ground wire built in)
