56 Oldsmobile fuel pump removal?

I am wondering if I can remove the fuel pump from the top side of the car? I have had the radiator out 2 years ago and at that time it would have been easy to remove the fuel pump.

While it is certainly possible to change a fuel pump from the topside, it is very difficult.
The easiest way, of course, is to put it on a lift, which most of us don't have.
You mentioned that it would be easy with the radiator out.
Although it would be a little more work to pull the radiator, it may be less aggravation.

First of all thank you for your time and effort! I have had the car up on a lift, but there is very limited access to the pump. It appears to me that possibility by removing the generator that I would be able to remove the fuel pump? I am trying to make up my mind whether to get a gasket kit or send it to be rebuilt? It has a glass bowl on the bottom of it so it would have to be packaged very carefully.

I would think it wouldn't be much different than my 61 and it wasn't that hard to do. There's only two bolts to remove it and the lines going in and out. I used an extension on the socket and had to maneuver the ratchet a little bit because it's tight. It came up around the side of the generator with a little twisting and turning.
It wasn't that hard to rebuild it either. I got my kit from 'Then and Now' in Massachusetts and he has videos on youtube on how to rebuild them or you can send it in to him and he'll rebuild it. He lists the cost on his website.

If the car has factory air, removing it from the top could be difficult. Otherwise, I would remove the generator and remove it from the top.

Glad to help. If you don't have a factory service manual, you should get one. It is the best money you will spend on your car. Get and original with some greasy fingerprints on it and not one of the repros or CD versions. You can find them on ebay and shop them because prices will vary.
