Ok finally managed to unscrew the dipstick, it was that siezed/ tight I thought the tube was going to break ! Fortunately it didn't, the dipstick unscrewed and had clean brake fluid showing so happy days.
Thanks for the info guys appreciate it

Glad we could help Charlie. That is what this site is all about. Be sure and keep a close eye on the fluid level. The fluid in mine started disappearing but no leaks. It was going past the leather seal in the treadle vac. That is why mine is being rebuilt now.

Ya, thats a common problem with treadle vacs and by the way the treadle vac could be either a Bindex or Moraine unit in a 55. Mine is original to the car and was a Moraine unit...Tedd

Interesting Tedd. I didn't think the Moraine unit was available until 57. I know the Moraine is supposed to be a better unit. Mine obviously is a Bendix since it is a 54. Although it was added from a parts car, it was also a 54. I hope it is back from the rebuilder this week.

New question to an old thread: 56 Super 88- access to the master cylinder is through a panel in the wheel well. There is a triangular loop handle (hollow) dipstick, not threaded, with an "L" on the bottom.
Where and how do I add fluid? Thanks, Frank
