The previous owner decided to put a PVC valve in place of the breather pipe pictured. And than ran a hose to the back of the carb. Is that something you Early Olds BB owners do? I just assume put the breather back on.

No blow by or smoke, discovered also the power brake vacuum lines and canister was disconnected and plugged. I will hook that all back up. He put a T fitting on the back of the carb (2 Barrel) that runs the PVC line and the other to the disconnected vacuum lines for the power brakes. I have the canister and fasteners. I will check it for leaks. Looks like I will have to get help and remove the hood in order to reinstall the vacuum canister.

Charlie, seems the breather pipe on a 62 goes on the passenger side valve cover where the now PVC check valve is. There is a little oil around the air cleaner base, I wonder if that's coming from the oil fill breather cap?

Find out where the car came from. California cars had a positive crank venting system but IIRC the PCV valve for that was screwed into the carb baseplate and not in the valve cover. Fresh air intake was from aircleaner snout to a special oil fill cap that looked like a Mopar cap.
Possible they couldn't get a screw-in PCV any longer and put a nipple in, and put the PCV in the valve cover. I don't see why this setup won't work fine.

Okay I may leave it. Car originally from Fayetteville Arkansas, believe it or not I have the protecto plate, bill of sale, owners manual and 61-62 shop manuals. I'm stilled puzzled why the Power Brake vacuum canister removed and the lines were plugged.
