Ok...there is a drip of transmission fluid coming from, I think, the bolt head at the bottom of the "pan." It is right under the transmission. Is it a drain?

Is there a special gasket for that bolt? I was told there is a copper one and it may have been re-used.

Is the pan removable with no problem if the gasket just needs to be replaced? I mean, if I am going to change the fluid anyway I wouldn't want the guts to fall out.

Thanks Oldsfan. I am not sure about the type of transmission, it is mated with a 307 V8.

 

Hmm, have to check mine and see which bolt you're talking about and will get back to you.

Anyway, I have been having a problem with my transmission. It will not shift to Reverse when the car is first started but will shift into Drive, 2 and 1 normally. However, after the car is driven (at least 3-4 miles) and then stopped, it shifts normal into Reverse. Just wondering what this sympton indicate and how big of a problem could it be down the road if not immediately remedied.
