1974 Delta 88 sitting correctly?

Is the car supposed to sit like that, looks lower in the rear than it should. These shots, the ground is pretty level.

Here's your car:

Here's a '74 Delta 88 out of the '74 Olds brochure:

In the lower photo, there is a small amount of black tire sidewall just visible above the white sidewall just below the rear fender opening.

On your car, which has a wider white sidewall, the top of the white area just touches the bottom of the fender opening.

I would say that, if your car is sitting low, it's maybe an Angstrom or two at most.

Vehicle height figures are listed in the factory service manual. You could get out a ruler and measure the height.

I don't have the '74 manual, but the '73 manual, in the section dealing with the front suspension, gives vehicle heights for all models. For the Delta 88, measured just rearward of the front edge of the front door and just forward of the rear wheel opening, the height from the ground to the bottom of the rocker panel (or rocker molding if there is one) should be 9.75 inches at both points. I'm guessing it's the same for '74. In any event, I'm guessing that, whatever the value is for 1974, it should be the same at both points.

I'd say it's just right.

I think that rubber moulding down the side of the car plays tricks on the way the car APPEARS to sit. I think is tappers downward at the rear of the car, to me making appear it is sitting lower. It prob is from age, but just not as bad as it appears.
Anyways, summer is kciking in here in Cincy, I am ganna drive the car when it is not raining. I still want to put new rad hoses and WP, TSTAT, on it so I feel better about that stuff. The pump has leaked out the weep hole a few times but it has been a month or more since it has done it. It is the orig pump so I would thing this hot summer if I drive it it could say good night.

Despite the age - looks pretty close to factory specs.

Me personally :

I like the look of a car sitting higher in the back vs the front.

Not a ridiculous amount mind you ... but just enough to make it easy enough to notice vs an identical one that doesn't.

Never cared for :

1 - the dragging *** look.
2 - sits too high look (4x4ish)
3 - sits too low (slammed/lowriderish)

I'll even go one further & say many cars from back then often looked too low from the moment they left the factory.

Just my opinion/take on ride height.

It looks pretty close to factory to me. But if it was mine, I'd drop the nose a touch and call it good.

Your a$$ is dragging.

You have sagging rear springs.

This means you are looking "uphill" along the hood while driving, and have inadequate weight over the front wheels, making steering (even more) vague.

Look in the Chassis Service Manual under "Carrying Height" (page 3-33, Figure 3-66), and you will see the heights at the designated points (over smooth, level concrete)with a full gas tank should be 9¾" both front and back, +/- ⅜" side to side and +/- ½" front to back.

You're about 1½-2" low in the back right now.
