1961 Olds Dynamic 88 "Bubble-Top"

I am attempting to post some pics on here of what I still consider to be "my" 1961 Olds Dynamic 88'. Even though some hard times forced me to sell it 6 years ago . I am still the one that dreamed it, built it, and owned it when it was a "Sreet Machine of The Year" finalist at the Goodguys Columbus, OH show. I don't know if I am doing this right, but here goes my first try. Lets see if they show up...

I don't know why one picture is large and you have to click on the rest of them to see them... oh well, you get the idea. Any of you big car guys remember my Dynamic 88? It had two fours on an old Offy intake and big an little Pro Street tires the first year I had it done.

The next winter I found and converted a Hillborn stack type Fuel Injection unit for the 394. It was a very rare piece that I found at an Oldsmobile show in Lansing. I also switched over to some 18 x 7 & 20 x 10 Colorado custom wheels.

The car had ART Shockwaves all the way around, with a one of a kind custom set of tubular upper "A" arms fabricated by Klye Tucker at DSE.

I have seen this car on the internet and alway look at it for inspiration. You did lots of work to that 88 so maybe you can help out the other owners...including myself.

I would love to offer any tips I can give to someone working on there 61-62 Olds 88's. I found a front disc brake interchange that is a bolt in swap. I also found a way to do dual exhaust on this car without using that funny looking passenger side exhaust manifold with the "chamber" up on the top of it. Let me know if I can help anyone else out there.

I am constantly looking for another 61 Bubble-Top, but I am kind of all tied up in an 65 Cutlass right now.

Very nice I really liked it with the 18 / 20 combo.

I have friends interested in doing a disc brake conversion on a '62 Starfire. I suspect te 61 and 62 were similar in terms of brake/steering components? Any direction you could provide would be appreciated. Feel free to post here, or send me a PM. Thanks -

Try http://www.scarebird.com/. Great product and easy to install. Uses off the shelf replacement parts

What they do have does not permit resuse of the factory 14" wheels, unfortunately.

I have not seen any conversion that does. I did convert to 15" wheels when I did my conversion. I was wondering if anybody has tried cutting out the center of a 14" wheel and and welding in the center from a 15" wheel in order to use the stock wheel cover. Its the taper of the 14" wheel that keeps the caliper from fitting within the 14" wheel

Or make a trim conversion ring so a 14" wheel cover could fit a 15" wheel. Don't know if either has bee tried.

Man, that is a beauty! I can only aspire to that kind of greatness. My heart bleeds for you to have to give her up. Mine's a 98 4dr HT but she's the same color and I just love the long low lines of her. Thanks for sharing.

I have always wanted a "bubbletop" but have always been partial to chevys. I originally wanted an impala but found your car on the internet. I have now purchased a '61 dynamic with dual quads on a 394. I plan on making a clone of your rides stance. Any help would be greatly appriciated,

JW

Back in March I asked about the dual exhaust conversion, and am still awaiting a reply?

Does the "bolt-on" disc brake conversion permit the continued use of the factory wheels, I wonder? I suspect not.

Try the spindles from a 1971 Delta I believe thats what I bought for my 61 they also have the center link mounted to the rear like the 61., and also have disc brakes.
I have the 61 but haven't done anything for for years. The car is 100% solid no motor or trans, but all bodywork is done and all the chrome us show worthy (I have a chrome platng shop ) has a Garnet red interior. Was going to put a duramax diesel with tremec five speed, but can't get to finish it. Looking to find one like rcdynamic88s'
