1961 Dynamic 88 Convertible Resurrection

The last thing I needed at this point was another project....... but was looking at Kijiji ads on a Saturday in early October (Thanksgiving weekend actually) and saw a ‘61 Dynamic 88 convertible for sale at a pretty attractive price. Car had been in storage for 10+ years and is surprisingly solid. The guy I bought it from delivered it to me the next morning and I had it running in the afternoon after replacing a corroded out frost plug. Fortunately it was at the front on the passenger head. Car seems to run nice.
I got the car on October 11th, flew south to St. Louis (I spend half my time there) on October 13th and just flew back on December 3rd so am in 14 day quarantine and have been getting a little better acquainted with the car.

Not sure what I’m going to do with it, but I love the back end on this car. I can’t honestly say I had ever seen one before. Definitely beautiful “space age“ design by Bill Mitchell. Actually the entire car talks to me from a design standpoint.






I’m sure I’m going to have a ton of questions........
first one would be does anyone now where I could pick up the Oldsmobile grill bar that’s busted up, that would be appreciated.

Nice find. Looks really solid. I am not sure who has full size 61 parts these days. I know Fusick has lots of stuff for these cars but not sure they would have that.

Spent some time today emptying out the trunk full of spare parts. Turns out not all were spares, there were some parts I thought were missing.

I have MOUNTAINS of parts for a 1961 Oldsmobile... But all NEW mechanical parts --- VERY
U.S.A. made parts....
No cosmetic parts, however; also, nothing Used....

Always best to simply call me --- Craig --- 516 - 485 - 1935......

I have always loved the 61's. My dad bought one new as soon as they came out. We were in Oakland Iowa when he went looking. The Olds dealer had a Fawn bubbletop on display that had a four speed transmission and bucket seats very similiar to the 61Chevy Super Sport cars. Never seen or heard of that combo since then. I was 18 and had been a car nut since I was 12 when I purchased my first Hot Rod mag.

Found these when I sorted through the parts in the trunk. Might as well get them out of my way.



While I’m at it I might as well install the new sill plate.

That's a beautiful car. I love the color combination. Fantastic that you were able to get it running so easily. You've got a great winter project ahead of you. Hope you can get it all back together so you can enjoy it when convertible weather returns.

I need to replace the master cylinder, it was seized solid. Surprisingly I had to use an impact to get the cap off. Before I buy a replacement single pot, how hard is it to convert this to a dual reservoir system? Can I use the stock booster with a dual reservoir master cylinder? Are there kits available?

There were two different types of brake booster / master cylinder used in 1961 . Bendix and Moraine .
Bendix has four bolts holding M/C to booster . Moraine has only two .
You have the Bendix type . There is no dual M/C to fit Bendix
However , if you can find a Moraine booster , it's rumored that a ' 66 Cadillac dual pot cylinder can be used with it ..
