1956 oldsmobile questions

i have three questions #1 what is the can under the hood on the passengers side hood hinge..#2 what is missing on the drivers side where i put the yellow dot. #3 what is the best way to get of these trim pieces..and the rest of them too...not sure if im doing it right..thanks

Not sure about the can I would need better pictures of it... Any possibility its a vacuum reservoir? The holes in your fresh air box are there to mount the control box for the "autronic eye". It was a feature that would set your high beams on, and automatically dim them when it sensed oncoming lights. They did not work well when reflective signs were introduced... Do you have a funny laser cannon looking thing on your dash? that would be the sensor for it.

EDIT: I saw your other thread about your dash. That indeed is where the sensor for the autronic eye was once mounted. Somebody along the way has stripped your car of that feature... No big deal its mostly a novelty to have now because of the aforementioned problems with the system. Just make sure your headlight system works properly, the switching for the the high and low beams was connected to that circuit, and god only knows what the prior owner did while he was in there...

power brakes cannister and autonic eye

thanks for your info...i plan on putting a autronic eye back on the dash for just looks because i didnt weld the holes shut..its part of the history of the car..i love it...
