1956 olds trunk lock emblem?

1956 olds trunk lock emblem?

can anyone tell me why some trunk lock emblems had one line horizontal....and some had more of a cross...what did that say about the cars model? heres some pics of what i mean....

The emblem in the left pic is Super 88, the one in the right pic is 88.

Ninety Eights were similar to the S88 except the star also had a spear on the bottom that covered the trunk lock cylinder, and had a fancy center insert instead of being a one-piece diecast emblem. There were "NINETY EIGHT" scripts on the sides of the star.

The "88" emblems on front fenders are different too- S88s have the numbers on a round background plate, 88s just have the numbers.
