Tight fit with the 700R. If I where you I would consider a built 200R then no trans tunnel mods required and no trans adapter required as many of these came with the BOP bolt pattern. I installed a 455 and turbo 400 in my 57 olds. Nothing bolts in. requires hand built motor mounts, offsetting the engine to the passengers side a little to clear the stock steering box if you are using the stock front end components. I also converted to a single piece drive line as well,

i got this and it seems as the one alot of people put in theirs is the 400 and its the biggest..and the 700 is shorter...if i went with the 700 where is the area i need to be concerned with?

700r4
you will also need an extension for the front of the torque converter and spacers the thickness of the adapter plate to go between the flex plate and converter

I put a 4L80E w/a 455 into my '57 Olds. (Same bolt pattern as 700R4). I purchased a "Transdapt" adaptor. It's aprox. 3/8" thick and comes w/the Crank spacer that fits into the rear of your crankshaft. You will need the same size spacers (or washers, 3/8") between the flex plate and the converter. You will have to fabricate a transmission mount for the rear of the trans. But it's actually very simple. If you decide on the 2004R be aware that there are 2 variations as far as bolt pattern goes. Make sure you get the Big block Bolt Pattern. And, you will have to have it built stouter to take the torque of the 455" Good Luck.

First, there is no such thing as a "big block bolt pattern". Second, with the exception of the very early 200-4R transmissions, all came with the unisex case that had both Chevy and BOP patterns. The very early 200-4R cases were BOP only, but those are relatively rare and it is unlikely that you'll find one. Obviously, either will bolt to ANY 1964-1990 Olds V8 motor.
