You trunk trim looks like a 98 but I am not as well versed on the 55 as I am the 54. Try finding some pictures online or a sales brochure.

After Researching Some ,And Picking My Old Brain Lots,I Believe This Emblem May Be Off A 1957 "88 Series".A '55 Or'56 "98" Olds Had The Long Trim Piece That Attached To The Top Center Of The Trim That Is Pictured , as I Remember The Emblem On The '57's Was Much Wider Than On PreviousYear Models. Correct Me If I Am Wrong . LARRY

Not related to your trim question but do your exhaust pipes lay across the bottom of your gas tank as it looks like on the photo? I would think they would be very close to the ground and could cause a scrape and bend issue on some gas station exit and entries... Just a curious observation...Tedd

It's 56 trim

Probably swapped deck lids somewhere along the line

Hi Tedd I think the exhausts run below the fuel tank but I can't remember (I will have a look tomorrow) the pipes have never ground out since I have had the car despite being driven up and down a couple of fairly steep ramps. To be honest I thought the exhaust was standard, I will try to take a picture and post it

No duals on a 55 from the factory, mostly because of the booster tank on the left hand frame rail makes for a no room situation.....Tedd

I can remember back in the day seeing more than one 54-56 Olds with tailpipes just like the ones Cosmic has. Then when I started with the 54 I really wondered about it. With the power steering on my 54 it is pretty near impossible to put duals on it. The X member on the frame would have to be cut but I think it would get by the booster tank. I will look closer when I put the tread vac back on. Mine are fake duals with one Smitty and the tailpipe split in front of the gas tank. I know that duals were available in 56. I think they were on 98's and had special extensions that bolted to the bumper. Fusick has them and I gave brief thought to using them on my 54.

Mine are true duels but it is not an easy conversion with many twist and turns and a couple holes punched in the X frame. 56's could be had with duels because they moved the booster to the firewall and this open up a passage to the rear....Tedd

Hi
Yes the system on my 55 is a complete dual system front to back and the tail pipes do run under the gas tank, the booster is in its original location and the pipes seem to have adequate ground clearance. I will take a couple of pictures at the weekend and post them as it is undoubtedly easier to see rather than explain

I must admit I don't know a lot about Oldsmobiles but I really struggled (& failed) to identify the boot trim it doesn't seem to be very common
