couple of quick rearend questions
What is the stock rearend on my 1974 omega 350 rocket? Is it a 10 bolt 8.5 rearend 28 spline unit?
From what cars can I source a direct bolt in posi unit?
Before I start my engine build I would like to source a decent low 3's ratio posi rearend.I was looking on e-bay and such but I have no idea how many splines my car is.. I am new to this v-8 stuff and would like a simple game plan.. Thanks. Sorry for my lack of knowledge..

There are only 2 stock rear gear ratio's for your car 2.73 and 3.08
if you look really close on the right inboard side of your axle tube you will find stamped letters and numbers. the letters should be eighter "JA" for 2.73 gears or "JB" for 3.08 gears they are sometimes hard to find, I had to sand off years worth of paint and road grime but they should be there. Now if you have limited slip rear you shuld have a metal tag on a lower bolt on the cover and the letters will be "JM" for 2.73's and "JN" for 3.08"s
I found gears from a 79 Trams Am (3.73's). the rear was about 1" wider and the perches were in the wrong spots. It also had the brakes removed. I found it a whole lot easier and faster to remove the "posi" and gears from the 79 case and install them in mine, this way i did not even have to remove it from under the car and a good time to replace all wheele brearings and "u" joints as well.

omega rear questions
Ok you have a corperate 8.5 10 bolt.
source cars will be 1970 -1981 camaro firebird trans am (guts only)
1972-1976ish nova ventura apollo (direct fit axle)
1973-1977 monte carlo, regal, cutlas, el camino, malibu classic, grand prix, even 1974-1988 1/2 ton truck gears and posi unit will fit the 8.5 you have.
reference pictures...This is what your looking for. Jim
I have the parts too if you do not want to screw around and get what you need right now . Recondition factory units maybe used gears if I have any in stock. NEW parts for sure. If your keeping the car that is always the way to go then you will not need to do this all again any time soon. Jim
